Reading Through the Proverbs: Proverbs 1 & 2

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

The next reading is from Proverbs 2. The specific passage accentuated is Proverbs 2:20, in which Solomon wrote, "So you may walk in the way of goodness, and keep to the paths of righteousness." If we abandon wisdom (word of God), then we have abandoned the paths of righteousness. We certainly do not want to be the "unfaithful" who "will be uprooted from" the earth (Proverbs 2:22).

Living for Christ

The message of the Gospel is about much more than the person(s) teaching it. Too many in the world today devote themselves to a specific "preacher" or "elder," rather than devoting themselves to the God's divine Word.

The importance is found in the message, not the messenger (1 Corinthians 1:10-17); only one Man died for our sins, and that is Jesus Christ. There is but one message that means anything; that message of truth is singular in nature and is not to be altered by any man or women (Mark 4:1-9, 13-20; Galatians 1:6-10). Those that preach and teach God's Word are not to conceal the cost of discipleship (Matthew 19:16-22; Matthew 8:18-22; Luke 14:25-33). We must never be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ as it is, not as man would have it to be (Romans 1:15-17).

We must each remember that the reward greatly outweighs the cost (2 Timothy 4:6-8; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 2 Corinthians 5:1-8). God's love and grace was manifested to mankind through the sacrifice of His only Son so that we can have the opportunity to obey (1 John 4:8-10), and we are to love with the same diligence (1 John 4:11).

Finally, remember that Christ is our all; if we are alive, we live for Him and to do the will of our Father in Heaven.

"...according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell." (Philippians 1:20-22)

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
